| So you want to get your music on Indie Beginning Radio. Make sure you read the following points first:-
Who can have their music played on Indie Beginning?
Bands, musicians and independent labels can get their music on IBRadio only if:-
- They are based in Hong Kong or the majority of band members are from Hong Kong
- No copyrights will be infringed by the broadcast of the tracks (this generally means that the music is original and the owners of the music have given permission for broadcast on IBRadio)
- The music recordings submitted are of broadcast quality (This includes the recording itself and the music file encoding)
- IBRadio approves the tracks for entry in their playlists
What genres are acceptable?
Indie Beginning's focus has always been on independent, alternative Hong Kong music. All indie artists are welcome to submit tracks if they meet the requirements on this page.
Hong Kong radio is dominated by mainstream pop music, therefore if a non-indie musician or group can demonstrate a 'band sound' then their tracks will also be considered for submission.
Do we (as bands) need to pay you?
No. Indie Beginning is committed to offering free basic promotion for local bands and musicians. We can broadcast your tracks, promote your gigs and shows, and publish your news without any charge to the bands.
Do you need to pay us (royalties and copyright)?
Music is copyrighted, and we believe that Indie acts and mainstream acts should be paid fairly for performance of their music. For our radio broadcast we use Live365, a US-based online radio network, who handle all our royalties payments.
In Hong Kong, CASH have reciprical agreements with the USA, and in-turn should pay the Hong Kong writers. Therefore we suggest that songwriters join CASH in order to ensure that they are paid fairly.
What format should my songs be encoded in?
We broadcast using the MP3pro format. Although other formats are acceptable, we recommend that you submit MP3s of between 128kbps and 320kbps. If the tracks are under 10meg then our email account should be able to handle it. If not then contact us and we will email you with an alternative submission method.
Can't I just post you a CD in the mail?
Of course you can... we love free CDs. Contact us with your details and we'll tell you our postal address. Make sure you include all the details listed at the bottom of this page.
How do I get into the charts?
The Indie Beginning Charts are based on many factors, including the number of listeners, how listeners rate your tracks, and if they turn off the radio as soon as your track starts, etc. The main way to increase your position is if listeners give your tracks good ratings or not. If you tell as many people as possible that your music is on our station, and your music is good, you'll have a much better chance of getting to the top!
If you understand all of that, agree to everything, and want to play your music to the world, then send your tracks to us.
